So, I have found that by default windows runs a ton of shit that someone like me (all I do is browse the internet and play online games) doesn't need.

How would one go about getting rid of all this crap for good?

Also, can Anonymous recommend me a good browser with no bloat? I'm currently using Firefox but it uses more resources than I think it needs to from what a few friends of mine were telling me.

If you want to browse the net with something extremely basic just use the IE that came with windows.

Next if you want to stop a bunch from starting up on boot up try
start > run > type in "msconfig" without the " now hit enter and go over to startup. Only un-tick things you know you won't be using and careful not to disable something the system needs. If you're not sure google the name and find out what it is.

Also check your Start > all programs > startup

clean out junk you don't want.

I still recommend fox 3.

If you want to do online gaming, go with something like tinyXP as opposed to a linux distro; Wine still sucks.

And as for the browser: stop being so anal about bloat. If you've got 1GB or more of RAM and have a vague idea of how to get your PC running efficiently, you won't notice any difference in how basic things perform if you're running Firefox, iTunes and Azureus as opposed to lolifox, foobar and uTorrent. Want to do some image editing, or something else unavoidably RAM-hungry? Fuck, close your damn web browser. You weren't using it anyway, and FF3 lets you save tabs. Anyone who thinks that NEVER using more than 3% of the memory you have available is a good thing is an idiot.
