I have to raid 4tb of unraided data on various 320, 250, 200, 160 drives.

What's the cheapest way I can raid this.

>> No.2

Be more specific. Raid 0 != Raid 1 != Raid 5, etc.

>> No.3

I was looking at raid 5.

I have a server with 32bit pci, I was thinking
sata raid card and 500gb drives, but that is still about 1800 bucks just to break even at 4tb raided.

How about you fuck off instead and get a bunch of drives that are the same size. We're not going to wipe your damn ass for you.

Sounds like someone missed the prozac train today.

Don't bother with hardware RAID, it is an endless road of pain and suffering. Just go for software RAID. If you want to just go for a RAID 0 equivalent (no redundancy) you can just chain all the drives together using LVM or something. That will reduce the MTFB (mean time before failure) as if one drive dies, you lose everything. Another option is ZFS. If you don't know what that is, google it.
